A Day of Reflection – A One-Day Advent Retreat

 Advent is Here

Prepare the Way

+

On behalf of the Order of the Most Holy Mary Theotokos, our Presiding Archbishop-Abbot had the privilege of hosting this one-day retreat entitled “Prepare the Way” presented by Scott Hahn and various other presenters from the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, at Our Lady of Peace Archabbey in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Family, friends, and neighbors gathered at Our Lady of Peace Archabbey to join scholars Scott and Kimberly Hahn, John Bergsma, Kendra Tierney, Chris Stefanick, Ken Howell, Fr. Boniface Hicks, and Fr. Daniel Klimek for this one-day online event sponsored by St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology in Steubenville, OH.

Also in remote attendance were other members of the O.SS.T. Community who pre-registered for this online presentation with St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. All those who registered were able to have access to all the videos through December 19th.

The day was divided into two sessions – a morning session and an afternoon session, along with a mid-day break for lunch. For those participating in person, the day began with opening comments by Dom ++Robert, O.SS.T., followed with Morning Prayer led by various retreat participants. We then had the opportunity to listen to each of our guest speakers, along with plenty of time for discussion, fellowship, and a hearty meal prepared in the archabbey kitchen.

Each presentation featured an illuminating personal reflection on the different aspects of the Advent Season. It was a true joy to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity as part of our Advent Journey.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Scott Hahn and the various other presenters from the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology listed below who allowed us to view their inspirational and thought provoking reflections on the true meaning of Advent.

A Prayer to Prepare Our Hearts for Christ’s Coming

Father, just as You sent John the Baptist to prepare the way for Jesus, help us to clear the path in our hearts, too. Show us the distractions in our lives that block us from all-out worship of You this Advent. Lord, we await Your coming! As we celebrate the first Advent–the first coming–we look toward the day where we will see You face to face. We imagine what it will be like. Give us hearts, Lord, that look for Your coming on a daily basis. Help us to live our lives where we are constantly seeking Your presence. Our offering to You today is our righteous life for we know we are only clean because of Jesus. Show us today how we need to be refined, purified, forgiven. Give us the strength to ask for forgiveness and to then change our ways. Amen.

Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men.

As we prepare in our hearts a place for Jesus’ rebirth.
He is the Light, the Truth and the Hope beyond all reason,
So let us reach out from our hearts to tell all the earth.
